Becky Ashe | L&N STEM Academy | August 23rd
We got an education about the L&N STEM Academy from Becky Ashe the principal. I think it’s safe to say we can be proud it is in our city and even more proud of the children who have graduated from there. Only 10 students are allowed from outside Knox County and trust me they have a waiting list of students that have applied. Hopefully they will be able, soon to expand, Of the four graduating classes, 10% went to the military, others applied for and were accepted for 4 and 2-year colleges. The percent of students meeting ACT college readiness benchmarks at the L&N 40%, State of Tennessee 20% and United States 26%. It was also listed in US News as one of the Best High Schools.
Next Week: We will have Justin Biggs who is running for county Commission. I know absolutely nothing about Mr. Biggs but I do vote and like to have some idea of who I’m voting for.
We presented a check to Dr. Ashley Harkrider from the Celebrate Sound Walk back in the spring. She was most pleased. She told us about a dinner that is planned for Friday, October 27, 6 pm at the Foundry. Tamika Catchings will be the star of the show with Mickey Dearstone the emcee. We will have a table so if you are interested see Marianne or Rusty.
The board meeting has moved to the 2nd Tuesday of the month and will be on 9/12 next month, same place. I was confident if I just whined enough I could convince them to change it.
Our goal for Oktoberfest is to sell 300 tickets and at this writing we are about 200 short. I agreed to host a table and you are more than welcome to join me and bring a friend. We also need brown bag items and silent auction items. If you have a Sam’s membership I found several things there over the weekend. This will be here in a very short time – get to selling! We even have a new membership application for you to give them.
Housekeeping: McKinney prayed, Thompson pledged and NO visitors.
